Introduction to this website
I am hoping that this site may help others that are thinking of, or looking for information about, the in's and out's of getting to grips with a Route 66 trip.
Whether you intend to do it on a bike, car, Winnebago, truck and trailer (I hadn't thought of that until someone said that was their dream!), information on this site will be relevant.
Use the tabs above to find out about applying for an ESTA (Electronic System for Travel Authorisation). This is a visa waiver process but is not applicable to all countries, so please check. See the 'Preparation' tab above.
COVID-19
It is currently April 2022, my trip was planned for April 2020 but we won't go there, OK?
However, it is important to check out the American CDC site for entry requirements to the United States. CDC is the Centres for Disease Control and Prevention and gives the information regarding Covid-19 and any other relevant, and current, diseases, pandemics etc.

Currently, you need proof of a negative test, it does not specify that it has to be PCR, or a supervised test as it did previously. So, I'm taking it that a self-administered test is sufficient. In the UK you can do a self-test, fill in the form on the NHS site and you get a response, by email, confirming a negative (hopefully) test result.
Update - Turned out that the above was acceptable. Self-administered test, at home, with the NHS email confirmation.
Update May 2023 - from the UK government website for Entry Requirement to the U.S.A.
Proof of COVID-19 vaccination statusAs of 12 May 2023, there are no COVID-19 vaccination requirements for travel to the United States. A pre-departure COVID-19 test is also not required. For more information see the US Embassy website
Check also with the CDC site International Travel to and from the United States | CDC
Update February 2023 : As of 5 January 2023 you no longer need proof of a negative Covid test but you do need proof that you are fully vaccinated.

UPDATE 31 August 2022 : Proof of vaccination is still required for entry into the U.S.A. Certain criteria apply so please check the above CDC website.
